Recently Seen: When No One Else Was Looking
Verið hjartanlega velkomin á opnun Recently seen: When no one else was looking í Deiglunni laugardaginn 28. september kl. 14 – 17. Þar mun gestalistamaður Gilfélagsins í september, John Chavers, sýna afrakstur dvalar sinnar. Sýningin er einnig opin sunnudaginn 29. september kl. 14 – 17.
John er myndlistamaður sem býr og starfar í Bandaríkjunum og vinnur með starfrænar myndir. Listræn iðja hans gengur út frá tilraunum með tölvutækni heimilisins og endurtúlkun og vinnslu á hversdagslegum hlutum.
Á meðan margir í listum taka nýjungum fagnandi og nýta til að bæta verk sín þá vinnur John að því að endurskoða eldri forrit frá snemma á tíunda áratugnum. Einföld forrit sem voru eitt sinn til á öllum tölvum. Þessi forrit eru ekki þjónustuhugbúnaður eins og Photoshop eða myndvinnsluapp fyrir snjallsímann heldur forrit sem voru keypt og sett upp með disklingum eða geisladiskum. Með þessum forritum, sum sem hann hefur bætt með eigin forritun, skapar hann myndir úr starfrænum skrám og ýmsum formum ljósmyndunar.

When No One Else Was Looking
Please join us for the opening of Recently Seen: When No One Else Was Looking in Deiglan on Saturday, September 28th hr. 14 – 17. Light refreshments and the artist will be present. Artist in residence, John Chavers will exhibit the products of his stay in Gil Artist Residency. The exhibition will also be open Sunday September 29th hr. 14 – 17.
John is a US-based visual artist currently working with digital images. His artistic practice stems from experimental engagement with everyday computer technology and the reinterpretation and manipulation of common objects.
While many creatives fully embrace the latest versions of software to help enhance their work, John is in the process of revisiting older, installed programs from the early 1990s; basic programs once available on every computer. These programs are not the current “software-as-a-service,” such as Photoshop or a downloadable app for a Smartphone, but rather programs that were purchased and installed using diskettes or CDs. Through the use of these various software packages – some of which he has enhanced with his own programming, he creates images made from digital files captured with various forms of photography.
