The Memory of Clay – Elín Berglind Skúladóttir
On August 8th, an exhibition of Elín Berglind Skúladóttir’s pottery entitled ‘Memory of Clay’ opens at 2:00 PM. The exhibition will be open both Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
“This is just clay.”
I often say this phrase to my students.
Nothing bad happens even if the result is not what we intended. Sometimes the most interesting works are created when we let go, let the material lead us, and embrace the unexpected results with open arms. That thought has accompanied me in my work with clay and in preparation for this exhibition.
Memory of Clay – is the result of many months of experiments with clay, glazes, and other materials – materials that I collect, mix, and research. Each work is a conversation between idea, material, and fire. Some turned out exactly as I envisioned them. Others turned out to be something completely different.
And perhaps they are the ones with the most stories to tell.
