Danielle Robitaille

During the last weekend of May, our artist in residence - Danielle Robitaille - opens her exhibition!
Emotions are at the core of Danielle's artistic process. She approaches this subject through data art and procedural art, two deliberately non-emotional approaches. This research mainly takes the form of digital art printed on paper, and sculpture.
Since 2020, she has been collecting daily data concerning her emotional states, which she then translates into digital visual work. Through this process, she seeks not so much to transpose her personal experience as to convey the elusive nature of emotions, allowing the senses to recognize their infinite variations.
During her stay in Akureyri, she wants to explore new ways of translating her emotional states using ropes, thread, and other fiber materials. This will be research in constructing a new visual language. Her goal, as in every project, is to create an object that is visually interesting, but also that has an underlying meaning.
Danielle lives and works in Montréal, Québec, Canada. In 2023, she earned an MFA from the Université du Québec à Montréal. She has carried out several art residencies, notably one in Finland, for which she received a research grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.
All are welcome!
