Archives of Akureyri – Erin Gericke

Midwest based artist, Erin Gericke, presents “Archives of Akureyri”, a collection of literary inspired paintings focusing on the birds of Iceland.
Her work features vintage library materials, such as due date slips and card catalog cards, to create narrative paintings that tie book titles to the painting subject. Through bright colors and simple lines, she creates work that blend natural elements to man-made ephemera as a way to give these pieces of literary history new life as artwork. The exhibition features new work on curated library materials to combine the birds that call Iceland home and Gericke’s experience here in Akureyri.
Erin Gericke is a US based artist who works with recycled materials as a way to pay homage to a previous career in libraries. She received her BFA in painting from Southeast Missouri State University in 2020. Her watercolor paintings feature simple lines and layer elements to create nature inspired paintings, often tied to the stories found in the library materials they are juxtaposed on.
During her time in Iceland, she will be partnering with the Akureyri Municipal Library to offer painting demonstrations on Thursday mornings in March. Archives of Akureyri will be exhibited at Deiglan and will be on display March 27th–29th, 2026.
