Also open on Sunday at 2 – 5 pm. Please join us for light refreshments and the artist will be present.<\/p>\n Roxanne says about her stay: \u201cThe paintings that I worked on at the Gil artist residency reflect the various moods and conditions found across the Icelandic landscape. \u00a0Most of the artwork in this series are acrylic paintings but, while here, I\u2019ve also explored using other mediums in my work. Paintings include several well known Icelandic locations. \u00a0But for me, it is finding the extraordinary in the common everyday landscape that always captures my attention, especially in finding the patterns, reflections and textures within. The majority of the pieces were worked on while at residence here at Gil. \u00a0Others were begun or completed at Listhus artist residency in February, 2017. I\u2019m very grateful for this opportunity to continue my work on Iceland and for the chance to exhibit this series. Work done here will be continued when I return back home (Seattle, WA, USA).<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n Roxanne Everett is a contemporary landscape painter. Her work focuses on the ecology and scenic quality of the natural environment, especially wilderness and remote areas. Her objective is to transport viewers to those locations and urge them to forge a deeper relationship with the land while renewing any connections from their own previous experience. With a culture that is increasingly marginalized to urban areas, her paintings share the importance and beauty of the natural landscape with viewers, including with those that may not otherwise be able to experience such a place first\u00a0hand.<\/p>\n Roxanne worked first as an architect and later spent twenty years as a National Park Ranger in the US. She has been an artist in residence for Big Ci, Bilpin, Australia (2017), Listhus in Olafsfjordur, Iceland (2017), Playa Arts (Oregon – 2016), Brush Creek Arts (Wyoming – 2016), Jentel Arts (Wyoming – 2015), as well as for several National Parks Artist in Residence programs. She lives half of the year in the urban landscape of Seattle, WA and the other half in a tiny isolated community that is reachable only by boat.<\/p>\n Roxanne received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Idaho in 1983 and a Masters of Forest Ecosystems from the University of Washington in 1994.
