“Fer\u00f0alangur”
\nStuttu eftir a\u00f0 \u00e9g kom til Akureyrar heims\u00f3tti \u00e9g safni\u00f0 sem s\u00fdnir n\u00fa g\u00f6mul \u00edslensk kort. Margt vi\u00f0 kortin gripu mig – fallegu landfr\u00e6\u00f0iteikningarnar og notkun lita, st\u00f3rfenglegu s\u00e6skr\u00edmslin og s\u00edbreytilegt form eyjarinnar eftir n\u00fdjar uppg\u00f6tvanir.
\nEftir \u00fev\u00ed sem \u00e9g ver\u00f0 \u00f6ruggari \u00e1 \u00feessu “\u00e6ttleidda heimili” breytist skilningur minn \u00e1 landi og \u00fej\u00f3\u00f0. Hver dagur er n\u00fd upplifun \u00e1 loftslagi, landslagi, hlj\u00f3\u00f0i og lykt.
\n\u00c9g hef b\u00fai\u00f0 til n\u00fd kort me\u00f0 uppg\u00f6tvunum m\u00ednum, me\u00f0 \u00e1herslu \u00e1 sj\u00e1lfsmynda, “skr\u00edmsla” sem Fer\u00f0alangurinn. B\u00e1tarnir, sem eru oft til sta\u00f0ar, t\u00e1kna fer\u00f0ina sem hefur prentast \u00ed hjarta mitt.

You are invited to the opening of the exhibition “Voyager” by Cindy Small, artist in residence, in Deiglan on Saturday, September 23rd at 2 – 5 pm. Also open on Sunday 2 – 5 pm.<\/p>\n

“Voyager”
\nShortly after I arrived in Akureyri, I visited the museum which currently has on display a collection of ancient maps of Iceland. Many things about the maps struck me-the beautiful topographical illustrations and use of color, the fantastical sea monsters, and the ever-changing shape of the island as new discoveries were learned.
\nAs I became more comfortable in this “adopted home”, I noticed my changing insights of this land and culture. Each day brings a different awareness of the climate, the landscape, the sounds and smells of this place.
\nMy work speaks to creating new maps of my discoveries, highlighting the self-portrait “monsters” as the Voyager. The boats that are often times present, symbolize the journey, which is absolutely leaving an imprint on my heart.
