Open artist talk in Deiglan, Kaupvangsstr\u00e6ti 23 on Monday, June 26th at 5:30pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n

San Francisco- based artist Sonja Hinrichsen will show us several of her arts projects. Despite a rather diverse work spectrum \u2013 ranging from video installations to nature interventions – most of Sonja\u2019s work is informed by natural environments and responds to her explorations of lands\/places and their cultural and historical contexts. Sonja will introduce her project \u201cSnow Drawings\u201d, where she guides communities to create huge drawings on snow-covered landscapes by walking pattern systems with snowshoes. She will also show some of her video installations and participatory projects that she created in places from China to Iceland, and from mainland Europe to the United States.<\/p>\n

Sonja graduated from the Academy of Art in Stuttgart, Germany and received a Masters degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has been invited to group- and solo- exhibitions worldwide, amongst others the DePaul Museum (Chicago), Shelburne Museum (Shelburne, VT). Kala Art Institute (Berkeley), Chandra Cerrito Gallery (Oakland), San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, CPAC Denver, Saarlaendisches Kuenstlerhaus (Germany), Organhaus (China), Pier 2 Art Center (Taiwan). She has won numerous artist residency awards, such as the Bemis Center, Djerassi, the Santa Fe Art Institute, Ucross Foundation, Valparaiso (Spain), Fiskars (Finland), Taipei Artist Village (Taiwan), Saari (Finland). In fall 2009 she served as visiting artist at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, where she taught an art\/research class culminating in an artist-student exhibition. In summer 2009 she taught a course for the University of Northern Colorado and PlatteForum Denver to explore innovative ways to incorporate art into school curricula.<\/p>\n
