H\u00fan er n\u00fa d\u00f3sent \u00ed myndlist og forst\u00f6\u00f0uma\u00f0ur Sordoni Art Gallery vi\u00f0 Wilkes h\u00e1sk\u00f3lann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Sincavage will present two related works, a short performance-to-video entitled “thresholds unraveled” and a live durational performance entitled “to my small hearth his fire came.” Each of these works focus on small gestures that make reference to fiber arts traditionally done by women domestically. Often this is referred to as “women’s work.” Sincavage uses this concept to further investigate post traumatic stress disorder caused by intimate partner violence. In the two works presented, she explores the trauma response of “dissociation” defined as “a disconnection between a person’s sensory experience, thoughts, sense of self, or personal history.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her performance will occur over two hours. Visitors are encouraged to come and observe for as long as they desire but are not expected to stay the entire duration. Trigger warning: The live performance will include sudden loud noises<\/p>\n\n\n\n Heather Sincavage is an artist, curator, and educator. Her practice utilizes performance art where her expertise centers on building a sustainable performance practice around social justice causes. She uses her own experiences with intimate partner violence as a case study analyzing what it is to live after trauma. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Her work has been screened in the Tate Modern and projected onto the historic Daniels and Fisher bell tower in downtown Denver, CO, amongst other locations across Europe. She has performed at the Queens Museum and Grace Exhibition Space in NYC; Tempting Failure Festival of Performance Art & Noise in London, Alive at Satellite during Miami Art Basel; Latvian Center for Performance Art in Riga; and galleries across the United States. She has exhibited in over 40 solo and group exhibitions across the United States and in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Finland, and Iceland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Originally from Southeastern Pennsylvania, she received her BFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and her MFA from School of Art, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. She is an alumna of The Vermont Studio Center as well as numerous other residencies and fellowships in the United States and throughout Europe. Her work has been published in Surface Design Journal and the 2022 publication “An Introduction to the Phenomenology of Performance Art: SELF\/S” by Dr. T.J. Bacon for the University of Chicago Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2018, Heather received the Tanne Foundation Award, a peer-nominated honor for scholarship excellence and emergent contributions to the performance art field.
