Sigbj\u00f8rn Bratlie is the artist in residence for the month of November 2021. He will have an exhibition on the products of his stay on 27 – 28th of November in Deiglan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am 48 years old, born in Oslo, and I graduated in 2002 from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Nowadays I spend my time between Oslo and Gdynia, on the Polish Baltic coast. I work with video, installation and painting. My artworks have a conceptual, analytical and quite often humoristic feel to them. Over the last nine years, my video works have revolved around the theme of language, \u2013 or more specifically, \u2013 foreign languages: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As performance projects these videos are the end result of a process whereby I first spend around one year teaching myself a (more or less useful) foreign language, and subsequently create an art project in which I, \u2013 in a specific setting, \u2013 communicate with someone in this language. Many of these projects deal with situations where the access to meaning and mutual understanding is hampered by lack of vocabulary, misunderstandings, bad grammar or bad pronunciation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here in Akureyri, I intend to brush up on my Icelandic skills, which are a bit rusty. I can generally understand people quite well, but I struggle to find the right words, – let alone the right grammatical endings, – when I want to explain something to someone. I am also finishing the editing of a video that will premiere in an exhibition in Norway next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
