We are honored to present a selection of new works by American realist painter David Molesky, an internationally celebrated artist known for his paintings of figures and landscapes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of us have experienced some kind of lock down scenario in the last year. At minimum, we each found ourselves with sudden limitations in regards to the spaces we were allowed to occupy. These restrictions and isolations have made a profound impact on the psychology of individuals all over the globe, the implications of which will reverberate for generations through culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the anniversary of the World Health Organization declaring Covid-19 a pandemic, Molesky offers us a selection of works which reflect on this collective experience. Over the last four months during his extended artistic residency in Iceland, Molesky has created a series of paintings that depict solitary figures in interior spaces who express a longing for interaction with the outside world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than rendering every inch of the canvas to its full extent, Molesky exposes areas of drawing and raw unpainted linen. This \u201cunfinished\u201d style contributes to the conceptual impact of the interior figures and provides the viewer with the opportunity to engage with the painting, completing the imagery in their mind\u2019s eye. Molesky gives particular attention to painting the areas that are met with the light from outside, often leaving the spaces in the shadows as the raw linen color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the Artist\u00a0<\/strong>
David Molesky is an American artist based in Brooklyn, NY. He was born in Washington, D.C. and graduated with a BA in Art Practice and Pre-Med from University of California at Berkeley.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He arrived in Iceland the day before the US election to work on a commission at a summer house in Reykholt, South Iceland. He was granted a long term visa by immigration to extend his visit to attend artist residency programs and will be in the country for six months in total. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his first 4 months in Iceland, he has made 35 paintings and has written several articles for magazines related to his experiences here. Molesky has found inspiration from the rarity of winter light and the prismatic effects that it can create. These phenomena have influenced his color palette and the way in which he composes light as the central feature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
