Kenny Nguyen er f\u00e6ddur og uppalinn \u00ed Su\u00f0ur-V\u00edetnam. Hann \u00fatskrifa\u00f0ist \u00far fatah\u00f6nnun hj\u00e1 Arkitekt\u00farh\u00e1sk\u00f3lanum \u00ed Ho Chi Minh og listm\u00e1lun \u00ed H\u00e1sk\u00f3lanum \u00ed Nor\u00f0ur-Kar\u00f3l\u00ednu. Kenny Nguyen is a mixed media artist whose\nwork focuses on using cultural-rich materials, as a means to explore personal\nidentity, integration, and cultural displacement. He is the Gil artist in\nresidence for the month of March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nguyen was born and raised in South\nVietnam. He graduated from a Fashion Design program at the Ho Chi Minh City\nUniversity of Architecture and Fine Art in Painting at University of North\nCarolina in Charlotte. His works have exhibited nationally and internationally\nincluding France, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and the U.S. Nguyen use his artwork\nto convey identity by pushing the limitation of materials and reconstructing them\ninto a new dimension. His studies in fashion design and traditional textile\nmaking not only provide him a deeper understanding of this field but also\nquestioning how he can transform it into contemporary art practice. He will use\nhis time at The Gil Society to create a new series of fabric painting\/sculpture,\nwhich will include free-standing pieces a well as wearable and performative\npieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nguyen will give a lecture at Akureyri Art Museum on March 10th<\/sup>. His solo exhibition at Deiglan gallery will be opened on March 28th<\/sup>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
