The exhibition is a part of Midsummer Night Festival will be open until 21:00 on Saturday. Light refreshments and the artists will be present. Also open on Sunday, May 26th hr. 14 – 17.

‘Matter of Time’ is a new installation artwork by June artists in residence, Sarah Webber and Andrew Walsh from Sydney, Australia. Comprising of a large suspended form made up of over a thousand origami fish, ‘Matter of Time’ reflects the artists own personal experiences of travelling throughout Iceland. Captivated by feelings evoked by the beauty, magnitude and foreignness of the Icelandic landscape, the artists sought to offer a similarly sublime experience for their audience. Focusing on the themes of time, place and space, the artists seek to transport their viewers into another world and offer a spatial experience which embodies the artists physical and metaphorical time spent in Akureyri. Inspired by Iceland’s rich history and affiliation with its oceanic ecosystems, the artists have chosen to use ‘fish’ as a representative symbol of ‘place’. The artists constructed over 1,110 origami fish within 15 days during their residency, with each individual fish requiring 6 minutes to create. Using each fish as an individual element that represents 6 minutes of time, the final suspended artwork offers the audience the opportunity to stand within a shoal of hand-crafted fish and contemplate on the physical matter which encapsulates 6,660 minutes of elapsed time.

Sarah Webber is a multidisciplinary visual artist and art therapist based in Sydney, Australia.
