You are invited for the opening of Gil artist-in-residence Sonja Lef\u00e8vre-Burgdorf exhibition in Deiglan on Friday, July 27th at 20 – 22. Please join us for light refreshments and the artist will be present. The exhibition is also open on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 – 29th hr. 14 – 17.<\/p>\n
\u201cFascinated by the amazing nature of Iceland, I wanted it to become my new subject. I wanted to sense the impact on me, feel the power underneath my feet, absorb this energy, sharpen my senses and perception and get impulses and stimulation – what I have seen so far has exceeded my expectations.<\/p>\n
Staying at GIL Artist Residency for a whole month offers me space and freedom to work in full concentration.<\/p>\n
Being used to work on big formats with Acrylic or Oil colours, I had to limit my material for my stay. Therefore, my actual work consists in sketches and drawings with different media, like charcoal, graphite, oil pastel sticks, watercolours and ink mainly on paper.<\/p>\n
Although influenced by landscape my paintings remain non figurative. It is all about expression, visualisation of an emotion, of the energy, the rough and the subtle in an artistic way and all based on the colours of the landscape.<\/p>\n
My watercolours are a result of the visit to J\u00f6kuls\u00e0rl\u00f3n, the glacier and the majestic floating Icebergs, the Black Beach and Diamond Beach. Just as much as the ride through the Highlands towards Landmannalaugar or the area around Lake M\u00fdvatn. Not to forget the weather, changing so quickly from one moment to the other. To capture the multitude of shades of grey and blue is a challenge.<\/p>\n
Even if the work I am going to present in Deiglan at the end of my stay could be considered as a preparation for the \u2018real\u2019 work still to be done in another format, many of them can stand alone.<\/p>\n
Once the impressions I take from here having settled, I am sure back home they will find their way to something new.\u201d<\/p>\n
